PASCAL FABRE
Original Race-Worn Helmet
GPA • French Formula 3 Championship, circa 1981
Signed
An exceptionally rare and historically important helmet from the early career of French Formula One driver Pascal Fabre, this original race-worn example dates to his participation in the highly competitive French Formula 3 Championship in the early 1980s.
Manufactured by GPA—one of the most respected French helmet makers of the era—the helmet is finished in Fabre’s distinctive tricolour-inspired livery, featuring a white base accented by bold blue and red striping. The design is complemented by period sponsor branding, most notably Lyonnaise de Banque across the visor band, as well as Fabre’s name, P. Fabre, applied to the lower sides.
The helmet retains its original visor assembly and fittings characteristic of early-1980s open-wheel competition, with a simple yet purposeful construction reflecting the technology of the period. The interior remains intact with original lining, showing clear signs of age and authentic race use.
Of particular note is the presence of hand-signed markings, including a signature across the visor and an additional inscription to the lower rear section, adding a personal and highly desirable element to the piece.
The exterior displays extensive and honest wear consistent with competitive use, including paint chips, abrasions, and rubber and debris markings—particularly evident across the crown and frontal areas—offering a vivid testament to its life on track. Such patina is highly prized among collectors as it reinforces authenticity and race provenance.
Pascal Fabre progressed through the French junior formulae during this period before reaching Formula One in 1987 with AGS. Helmets from his early Formula 3 career are exceedingly scarce, representing a foundational chapter in his ascent through the ranks of international motorsport.
A compelling and seldom-seen opportunity to acquire an original race-used helmet from early-1980s Formula 3, combining period craftsmanship, authentic race wear, and direct association with a Formula One driver.
